Penguin Covers, Repackaging Screenplays

Repackaging Screenplays into Penguin Covers Danny Boyle’s Life Journey Series This brief has involved in depth research on different films, their directors and screenplay writers in order to build a strong uniting concept to attract film audiences into reading. A logo has been built according to the brief to show branding building awareness along the project. The theme selected is Danny Boyle’s Life Journeys Series. Three movies were selected. These are Simon Beaufoy’s ‘127 Hours’ and John Hodge’s ‘Trainspotting’ and ‘The Beach’ screenplays. Self-produced photographic imagery has been used (Railway, Map and Rock) to build the theme of the ‘Life Journeys Series’. Theme that has been developed from the life journeys the three characters go through in the chosen movies and how these are life changing experiences. This is one of Danny Boyle’s characteristics that reoccurs in his movies. The use of the rail track in ‘Trainspotting’ represents the path the character takes into the drug scene and crime, the rock mountain in ‘127 Hours’ represents the rock that is going to see the character’s life change as his arm gets trapped on it and the map in ‘The Beach’ is a representation of the path the character takes to discover a new paradise land in Thailand breaking from his normal life in America. The typographic content has been treated by using two weights of the Universe family. The screenplay titles (a mix of Roman and Light) were created to evoke intrigue of to what to expect, the use of a light-weight represents the character who is living a life different to people around them. A hierarchy has been assigned to each of the typographic elements to make them understandable and same type sizes and position were used in all three covers to attain consistency though the series.
